At the BIGBANK Gold League Final Stage, which took place on Tuesday, 9 August, at the Viljandi stadium, many Estonian, stadium and personal records were broken. For the second year in a row, Anna Iljuštšenko renewed the Estonian record at the final stage by taking it to 1.96 and won the grand prize of the series (20,000 euros) again.
Iljuštšenko was followed by Russian Tatiana Mnatsakanova (1.87) and Venelina Veneva (1.87) from Bulgaria.
Olga Balayeva, who had won four stages in the women’s long jump and kept up with the jackpot schedule, had to settle with second place by jumping 6.58. The winner was Shara Proctor from Great Britain with the result of 6.71. Viktoria Molchanova (6.46) from Russia came third.
The winner of the 400 meters run was the Ukrainian Natalia Pigida with the time of 51.99. The second was the German Claudia Hoffmann (52,33) and the third Anna Oreshkina (54,25) from Russia. The best quarter-miler of Estonia, Maris Mägi, did not compete
Decathlete Andres Raja (13.84) improved his personal best in 110 meters hurdles with a 1.5 m/s headwind and achieved second place. The race was won by Samuel Coco-Viloin from France with the time of 13,79.
The winner of the 400 meters run was Marek Niit with a new personal best of 46,11. The second place went to the Jamaican Sekou Clarke (46,84) and third to Ivan Shabluyev (47,41) from Russia. In the mile run, a new Estonian record was set by Tiidrek Nurme (3.59,74), who also won the distance.
The winner of the men’s 100 meters run, which was run with a 2.3 m/s headwind, was the Jamaican Lerone Clarke with 10.36. The second was the Azerbaijan and Turkish record man Ramil Guliyev (10,44) and the third Marek Niit (10,73). The winner of the 200 meters run was Ramil Guliyev from Turkey with 20,86, the second was the Jamaican Lerone Clarke (21,23) and the third David Bolarinwa (21,83) from Great Britain.
In men’s long jump, two athletes reached 8 meters: Marcos Chuva from Portugal jumped 8.34 on his last attempt and the French Salim Sdiri jumped precisely 8 meters on his first attempt. They were followed by the Russian representative Pavel Shalin (7.91) and Latvians Elvijs Misans (7.88) and Janis Leitis (7.86). The Estonian was Jaanus Uudmäe with a modest 7.32. The triple victory in high jump went to Russia. The winner of the first place was Nikita Anishchenkov (2.26), the ruling world champion Yaroslav Rybakov settled with 2.20 and Roman Evgeniev (2.16) came third.
The best Estonian javelin throwers had a strong competition from which Risto Mätas came out as the winner with a new personal best (81.56). Marko Jänes also became a 80-meters man with his new personal best of 80.33. Third place went to Mihkel Kukk with the result of 80.07.
The winner of the discus throw was Gerd Kanter with the result of 65.46. He was followed by Märt Israel (62.90) and the Australian Benn Harradine (62.11). The first place in shot put went to the Latvian Maris Urtans with the result 19.47, Andrey Borodkin (19.09) from Ukraine was second and the Russian Pavel Sofin (19.03) the third.
