629 people from almost 130 families took part in the Super Family Day, which took place at the Tallinn Zoo on Saturday, 8 May.
According to the Project Manager of the event, Kristi Berggren, this year's Super Family Day, which has become a pre-Mothers Day tradition in six years, can be considered as a success. "I am glad to say that regardless of the cloudy and cool weather, so many children and parents had come and enjoyed the day. The number of participants has grown every year and this year was no exception," Berggren commented.
In addition to the Elephant's Song and Dance Festival, different games and competitions, the children and parents had the possibility of visiting the zoo after the event. "As visiting the zoo made the day quite long, we decided to distribute food gathered with the help of sponsors to the families, so that they would have enough energy for staying outdoors for so long," Berggren added.
At the Super Family Day, the honorary title Super Family of the Year was announced and BIGBANK's 10,000 kroon prize cheque was awarded to the Pall family from Rapla County who are raising four children and also offering a home to a foreign exchange student from Germany. According to the mother Aigi, the title came as a surprise, as there are many hardworking large families in Estonia. "I am glad that large families are valued increasingly and more possibilities are being found for them," said Aigi Pall.
According to one of the judges, the President of the Union of Large Families of Estonia, Kalmer Hütt, several factors were considered when making the choice. "It was a difficult choice, but the decisive factor was the fact that the Pall family is a hardworking and active large family with a sense of unity. Also it is brave of them to take in an exchange student and offer her a possibility of learning about our culture and traditions," Hütt added.
Within the Super Family of the Year competition, also a children's drawing competition My Family was announced, which received 100 drawings from all over Estonia. Twenty best artists were acknowledged with a prize and diploma at the Super Family Day.
The Super Family Day, which this year took place already for the sixth time, and the honorary title Super Family of the Year, which was awarded for the first time, took place this year in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania simultaneously.
The initiators and organisers of the Super Family Day and the honorary title Super Family of the Year are ASBL Union of Large Families of Estonia (MTÜ Eesti Lasterikaste Perede Liit) and BIGBANK AS.
