Competition for the honorary title Family of the Year has begun

Starting from today (12 April) until 29 April, it is possible to submit candidates for the competition for the honorary title Family of the Year to the Union of Large Families of Estonia (ULFE).

As candidates to the honorary title Family of the Year awarded by the Union of Large Families of Estonia and BIGBANK AS, it is possible to nominate an unified, hardworking and exemplary Estonian family, with at least four children. Proposals for awarding the honorary title Family of the Year can be made by all family members, acquaintances, institutions, companies etc.

In order to submit a candidate to the Family of the Year competition, a written application has to be sent to the nearest county center of ULFE either via mail or e-mail. Also it is possible to communicate an electronic application through the webpage www.bigbank.ee/suurperepäev. The proposal has to include the surname and members of the nominated family, their place of residence, the workplace of the parents and their occupations, and also a description and justification in free form. The name and contact information of the submitter of the application have to be included also.

The county centers of the Union of Large Families of Estonia will select 1-2 candidates among the submitted ones, who will enter the final stage. A committee consisting of 3 Members of the Board of the Union of Large Families of Estonia, the patron Elle Kull and Member of the Management Board of BIGBANK Kaido Saar shall be formed for electing The Family of the Year in the final stage.

According to the Chairman of the Board of ULFE, Kalmer Hütt, the committee shall consider the integrity of the family, the activities and services of the family members when evaluating the candidates. "The aim of awarding the honorary name is to value and acknowledge wholesome and strong large families of Estonia and set them as an example to the society", Hütt added.

The patron of the Family of the Year competition, Elle Kull, is on the opinion that it is very important to acknowledge large families in order to change the regrettably widespread opinion that having many children is every family's own problem. "I am convinced that in a large family, values important to our society are carried on thanks to a sense of unity and tolerance. This has to be seen and acknowledged," Kull added.

The honorary title of the Family of the Year will be announced and awarded on 8 May at the Family Day for Large Families. The awarded family will also receive a letter of appreciation and 10,000 kroons.

The family day for large families, which this year is taking place already for the sixth time, and the honorary title Family of the Year, which will be awarded for the first time, will be taking place this year in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania simultaneously.

The initiators and organisers of the family day for large families and the honorary title Family of the Year are ASBL Union of Large Families of Estonia (MTÜ Eesti Lasterikaste Perede Liit) and BIGBANK AS
