The II stage of the fifth season of the athletics competition series BIGBANG Gold League will take place tomorrow, January 30, starting from 2.30 pm at the Tartu University Sports Hall.
In Tartu, also the Latvians, Russians and Ukrainians, who showed strong results in the first stage, will compete in addition to Estonians. In the men's 60 metres hurdles, strong competition for the Estonian record owner, Tarmo Jallai, will be provided by Latvian Stanislav Olijars and Ukrainian Sergey Demidyuk. In shot put Maris Urtans, who broke the record of the Lasnamäe Sports Hall during the I stage, will compete.
In the women's long jump, the season's first start will be made by Sirkka-Liisa Kivine and Vera Baranova, to whom competition is provided by the Russian Tatyana Voykina and Latvian Aiga Grabuste. The competitors of the 60 metres hurdles include Grit Šadeiko, who ran with the time 8.37 in the Estonian youth championships, and Veera Baranova. Both the high jumper Anna Iljuštsenko and pole vaulter Lembi Vaher will attempt to renew Estonian records.
The ETK heptathlon 2010 will also continue in Tartu, which this time includes 60 metres hurdles, high jump and 1000 metres run. The I stage included three events: 60 metres run, long jump and shot put. After the first three events, the general leader is Mikk Pahapill with 2526 points (7.11; 7.14; 15.73). Andres Raja is down by only one point (7.04; 7.15; 15.28) and on the third place there is Kaarel Jõeväli with 2259 points (7.20; 6.92; 12.73).
Last year BIGBANK concluded an agreement with the MTÜ Spordiürituse Korraldamise Klubi, pursuant to which the bank will support organising the most reputable athletics series of the Baltics - BIGBANK Gold League - for the next four years with a total of three million kroons. This year the BIGBANK Gold League, which is already taking place for the fifth time, is organised by the MTÜ Spordiürituste Korraldamise Klubi.
