Ksenija Balta made two Estonian records in hurdles

On Wednesday, 20 January, at the BIGBANK Gold League winter season opening stage which took place at the Lasnamäe Sports Hall, Ksenija Balta renewed the Estonian 60 meters hurdles record twice.

In the qualifications, Ksenija Balta ran the 60 meters hurdles with 8.19 seconds, which is one hundreth of a second better than the former Estonian record owned by Mirjam Liimask. In the finals, Balta improved the record once more and achieved second place with the time 8.16. Balta's result also exceeded the indoor athletics' world championship normative. BIGBANK rewarded Balta for the records with 25,000 kroons. The winner of the finals of the 60 meter hurdles was Olga Samyilova with a time of 8.14 seconds, which also crushed the previous record of the Lasnamäe Sports Hall.

In addition to the women's 60 meters hurdles, four more records of the Sports Hall were made. Latviab Stanislac Olijars ran 60 meters hurdles with 7.66 seconds, Latvain Jekaterina Cekele ran 60 meters with 7.33 seconds, Lithuanian Egle Balciunaite ran 800 meters with 2:03.88 . Latvian Maris Utyans won the men's shot put with a result of 19.91 meters.

The first stage of the ETK heptathlon included three events: 60 meter run, long jump and shot put. After the first three events, the general leader is Mikk Pahapill with 2526 points (7.11; 7.14; 15.73). Andres Raja is down by only one point (7.04; 7.15; 15.28) and on the third place there is Kaarel Jõeväli with 2259 points (7.20; 6.92; 12.73). Mikk Pahapill and Andres Raja achieved personal records in shot put.

The next stage of the BIGBANK Gold League will take place on 30 January at Tartu.
