Eesti Post and BIG are organising a charity dog show in Tallinn this Sunday (30 October), all funds raised from which will be donated to the Pärnu Homeless Dog Shelter. The event will also give several of the dogs currently being cared for in the shelter the chance to find themselves a new home.
The event, called Match Show, starts at 11.00 am in the Kristiine Sports Hall in Tallinn (Forelli 12) and will feature both pure-bred and cross-bred dogs.
According to one of the event's organisers, Eesti Post sales director Marko Pokk, the idea of putting on a charity dog show started when the company issued a joint stamp with Kazakhstan Post in the middle of October titled Hunting Dogs. Accordingly, visitors to the event will also be given an introduction to canine philately.
BIG marketing manager Svea-Elen Peters says that all money raised will go to the Pärnu Homeless Dog Shelter. Our main goal with this event is still to inform people about the responsibilities that come with owning one of our four-legged friends, in the hope that fewer and fewer abandoned dogs will end up in shelters around the country.
The audience at the dog show will be introduced to a variety of breeds and get the chance to have their questions about dogs and caring for them answered by specialists, who will also give an overview of the fundamentals of dog-keeping. Participants will be given tips on how to behave around strange dogs and what they must take into account if they wish to adopt one of the dogs from the shelter. Registration for participation in the event can be done on the spot. Dogs must have been vaccinated at least 30 days before the event and bear certification of such.
The Pärnu Homeless Dog Shelter will be bringing some of its guests to the event in the hope that they will find new families. Shelter director Toomas Jürgens says that a couple of dogs will be brought to the show who people can get to know in the shelter's stall.
