The Baltic Investment Group Bank (BIG) signed a sponsorship deal on Monday for a million kroons in support of Estonian athletics over the next three years.
The partnership and sponsorship deal, signed between BIG and the non-profit organisation Spordiürituste Korraldamise Klub (Sporting Events Organisation Club), will result in the creation of a new championship series in Estonia - the BIG Gold League, which will feature a three-round series in winter and five-round series in summer. The first round is set to take place on 25 January. The majority of Estonia\'s best athletes are entitled to enter the championship, including world champion Andrus Värnik, Olympic bronze medalist Aleksander Tammert, World Championship silver medalist Gerd Kanter and World Championship 6th placed Kristjan Rahnu.
"Estonian athletics of late has been coming along as well as the country\'s economy," says Parvel Pruunsild, chairman of BIG\'s supervisory board. "BIG now has a role to play in the success of both."
BIG is a bank based on Estonian capital whose main areas of activity are loan services to private clients. The company\'s objective is to be more flexible than the larger universal banks and to approach the wishes of each client more personally. It is the largest specialist lender to private clients in the Baltic States after the universal banks and leasing firms. At present BIG has 11 branches throughout Estonia.
