February 1 - application deadline for two traditional music scholarships

Last summer Balti Investeeringute Grupi Pank AS and Estonian Traditional Music Centre established the Traditional Music Scholarship with the purpose of diversifying the opportunities for young traditional musicians upon studying traditional music.

This year the deadline for applications for the traditional music scholarships is February 1. The scholarships are provided to enable two young musicians to participate in the international traditional music camp Falun ETHNO in Sweden scheduled for summer. The camp will be held in the city of Rättvik on June 29 - July 6. The applicants eligible for the scholarship shall be 16-25 years of age by the time of the camp. Also, they shall take active interest in the Estonian traditional music and culture, and have desire to improve their knowledge in the international camp. Every year the Scholarship Committee determines the exact amount of the scholarship before announcing the names of the musicians who will receive the scholarship.

To apply for this scholarship, please submit a written application (in free format and style) to the Estonian Traditional Music Centre via e-mail: folk@folk.ee. Please enclose also a letter of recommendation from your instrumental or vocal music teacher, an instructor of ETNO Estonia or any other traditional music camp.

The names of the scholarship grantees will be announced at the MAAjaILM festival, held by the Traditional Music Centre in Tartu on March 4, 2006.
