The charity dog exhibition BIG Match Show held at the Kristiine Sports Hall in Tallinn on Sunday raised around 26,000 kroons for improving conditions at the Haapsalu and Võru homeless animal shelters.
A total of 155 pure-breed and half-breed dogs took part in the BIG Match Show this year. There were approximately 1000 spectators. The overall winner of the show was a mixed breed dog called Murfi, owned by Andres Kadakas.
The 25,678 kroons raised from participation feeds, ticket sales and visitor donations will be given by the organisers to the Haapsalu and Võru homeless animal shelters for improving the animal living conditions there. Balti Investeeringute Grupi Pank covered all the dog show organisation expenses.
The BIG Match Show is an annual charity dog show, the largest of its kind in Estonia, and its aim is to draw people's attention to the problem of stray dogs and possible solutions, as well as to collect money for the improvement of the conditions of homeless animal shelters across the country. The event is organised by Balti Investeeringute Grupi Pank (BIG Bank) in cooperation with the Association of Estonian Dog Owners.
This is the third year that the charity BIG Match Show has been held. The approximate sum of 21,000 kroons raised last year was given by the organisers to the Tartu homeless animal shelter and used to build a new walking yard for the dogs.
