At the opening competition of BIGBANK Gold League, which took place on Tuesday 24 January at the Lasnamäe Sports Hall, triple jumper Juri Kovalev (16.65) and Jamaican sprinter Patricia Hall, who ran 200 meters in 23, 65, set the new records of the competition arena.

In the men’s triple jump, Igor Sjunin (16.02) came second. In long jump, Latvians took the first and third place - Elvijs Misans (7.72), Maris Grenins (7.44). The best of the Estonians, Rain Kask (7.51) won the second place. The first place in high jump went to Karl Lumi with the result of 2.20. Russian Roman Yevgenyev was second (2.17) and the Latvian representative Normunds Pupols jumped only 2.08.

The best in shot-put, Raigo Toompuu, achieved his first place with 18.51. Kristo Galeta (17.67) came second and Genro Paas (17.05) the third. The decathlete Mikk Pahapill managed to put his shot to 15.18.

Men's 200 meter run was won by the sprinter Antoine Adams (21,88) from St. Kitts and Nevis, the second place went to Rasmus Mägi (21.95) and the third to Ukrainian Stanislav Melnykov (22,07). The first and third place in the 800 meter run went to Vitalij Kozlov (1.52,57) and Mindaugas Norbutas (1.55,41) from Lithuania. Ukrainian Taras Bybyk came second with the time of 1.52,60.

The winner of the women’s triple jump was the leader of the seasons ranking chart, Hanna Knyazyeva from Ukraine, with the result of 13.75. Veera Baranova jumped only 12.91. Batranova also competed in long jump, where she came third by jumping 5.99. A double victory went to Lauma Griva (6.19) and Laura Ikauniece (6.09). Lembi Vaher won the pole vault with 4.11. Reena Koll, who took the Estonian record to 4.15 only in the beginning of January, achieved only 4.01. In high jump, Anna Iljuštšenko attempted to set the Estonian indoor record (1.04) on three attempts, but her final result was 1.90.

Jamaican Patricia Hall won the 200 metre run with the new record of the Lasnamäe Sports Hall (23,65). The second was the representative of St. Kitts and Nevis, Tamika Williams (24,17) and the third Grit Šadeiko (24,46). Maris Mägi (24,13) who initially finished second, was disqualified due to stepping on the other track. In 800 meter run there was a close match between the Ukrainians: Liliya Lobanova (2.08,44), Anastasya Tkachuk (2.08,89) and Olena Sidorskaya (2.09.38).

The next BIGBANK Gold League competitions will take place on 9 February at the University of Tartu Sports Hall and on 25 February at the Tallinn Sports Hall. During the winter season there is no entrance fee for the audience.
